Las Vegas To Consider A Ban On Apartment Conversions:

Rental units in Las Vegas are in short supply and the city is considering a temporary ban on apartment conversions to tide over the problem. The ban if approved will be in force for six-months. Over 4,000 apartments which are currently in the process of being converted and another 3000 apartment units will have to stop the process and

Apartment’s inventory has gone down by half and the conversions are taking place so quickly that it is hard to keep track of them.

But the building industry is opposing the ban saying that the apartment conversions is the only way a lot of the lower income groups are ever going to own a home. The teachers, nurses and others are the main group of people who are buying these condos.

The lobby for the ban says that affordable housing is in short supply in Las Vegas and the large numbers of workers who flock into Las Vegas in search of employment are unable to find rentable units and may have no other option but to leave.

Both sides will have their say on Wednesday.
