Las Vegas Real Estate Owner Rights Being Debated By State Legislature
The Nevada State Assembly has just passed a bill that would make it more difficult for local governments to invoke eminent domain and seize private property for redevelopment. According to Reno news station KRNV, local area governments currently are only required to have the property classified as a “blight.” The new law, if also passed by the Senate, would rule that the property in question also meet additional criteria, and that the entity that wants to redevelop the property come to the owner with an offer before calling on the government to intercede.
With the Las Vegas real estate market being as saturated as it is, eminent domain issues will likely become even more common in the near future. If the law is passed by the Senate, property owners in Las Vegas and its environs will be the ones to benefit most, knowing that their property is less vulnerable to government seizure.
