Green power in Nevada

Nevada Power Co and the Sierra Pacific Power Co are planning construction of plants that use geothermal and wind power by 2008. The green power will save the customers hundreds of millions of dollars. If the renewable power plant projects were completed by 2007 then the consumers can save $150 million in the following 10 years because of federal tax credits. In addition to the tax credit of $15 million per year, the consumer also saves $15 million to $30 million due to reduced consumption of natural gas. Compared to the 7.5 cents a kilowatt-hour, the gas would cost 8.8 cents that will add to his savings. Nevada spends $3 billion a year for fossil fuel including gasoline and natural gas most of which is produced out of state. Having renewable energy projects can help to check the expenditure of the state by minimizing the bleeding of Nevada dollar.

Renewable energy has many advantages to its credit like it is environment friendly. It produces less pollution compared to the natural gas and the coal-fired plant. It can boost the rural economic development by setting wind farms and the geo thermal plants.
