Water Smart Homes In Las Vegas
Southern Nevada homebuilders association and southern Nevada water authority along with KB home Nevada have come with a unique project of water-smart homes. These homes can save 75,000 gallons of water per year.
Water-smart homes offer all the comforts of a new home but use very little water. Water smart home program does not mean using “no water” but doing more with very little. The houses use high efficiency dishwashers, faucets, and showerheads. Without compromising on the quality of life the standards will reduce the use of water.
A new landscape type developed has been found to be lush and water efficient compared to the water thirsty grass. Called Xeriscape, it is a water saving alternative to yards of grasses. On an average home owners can save 55 gallons of water per square foot if they change from grass to water-smart Xeriscape.
Some of the guidelines followed by water smart homes are - no ornamental water features, maximum of 1000 square feet of turf or pool area in the backyard, installing efficient hot water system, air conditioning system must have no evaporative systems.
