Las Vegas
Las Vegas has consistently been one of the top United States vacation
destinations since the late 1970s. It is one of the main convention
locations in the U.S.; for several years Las Vegas has had more large
trade shows than any other city. Over 30 million visitors came to
Las Vegas in 2002.
The world-renowned lineup of luxury hotels and casinos that make up
the Las Vegas “Strip" includes nine of the world’s 10 largest hotels.
Two new Las Vegas hotels – the Southcoast and the Wynn Las Vegas –
are currently in the building stages. Las Vegas already has more than
126,000 hotel rooms, and an average yearly occupancy rate of 90%.
As the number one gambling destination in the world, Las Vegas is
known for its casinos, which bring in billions of dollars in revenue
each year from “gaming” alone. Gambling has been legal in the state
of Nevada since the early 1930s. Las Vegas’ millions of vacationers
are drawn to the excitement and variety of games, and the elegance
and high level of service they receive.
There is something fun to do in Las Vegas 24 hours a day. There are
spectacular, full-production shows, such as Cirque du Soleil’s “O,”
performed in and around a 1.5 million gallon pool at the Bellagio
resort hotel. Visitors can catch headliner performances with the likes
of Celine Dion, Blue Man Group and Carrot Top. The many Las Vegas
clubs and lounges provide a wide range of after-hours destinations.
While many Las Vegas shows are adults only, Las Vegas features some
notable child-friendly entertainment as well, such as the circus acts
at Circus-Circus.
Dubbed “Wedding Capitol of the World”, Las Vegas attracts more than
100,000 couples every year. Over 30 wedding chapels offer full-service
weddings, ranging from the traditional to special themes. Every type
of wedding service imaginable is available in Las Vegas. The laws
of Nevada cooperate by not requiring blood tests or a waiting period
for a marriage license, and the Las Vegas courthouse is open seven
days a week.
The Las Vegas Valley is also the fastest growing residential area
in the United Sates, with over 5,000 new Las Vegas residents moving
in every month. The new residents are attracted by the desert climate,
affordable quality housing and the low cost of living, made even better
by the absence of personal city taxes. The job market is also strong
in Las Vegas. The city’s business friendly tax laws and tourism opportunities
continually attract new businesses and more jobs, primarily in the
area of services, construction and light manufacturing. Every year
Las Vegas builds new schools, roads and hospitals to keep up with
the constant expansion and maintain the high standard of living residents
have come to expect. They expect something like the Northbrook lifestyle.
